Kidz Lifestyle: Fitness Exercise and Nutrition

The lifestyles of today’s kids have undergone enormous change. Television, computers and
video games have replaced many of the physical activities children once enjoyed.
So when we discuss our children, we often hear words like ‘obesity’, ‘heart disease’, ‘high blood pressure’ and ‘diabetes’.

Fitness seems to have taken a backseat when it comes to the modern child.
Our kids are becoming victims of inactive, unmotivated, unhealthy lifestyles
and their health is deteriorating.
An increasing number of children are obese, and if no intervention is made,
80% of them will stay overweight as adults. This can put them at risk
for many medical problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure,
high cholesterol, and sleep apnea. Obesity can also adversely
affect their self-esteem.

Good food habits and daily physical activity – if your child has these, they're well on the way to a healthy life. But achieving this isn't always so simple. Get Kidz Fit  helps your child to do it.
We work with your child to establish good habits and make better decisions based on 5 steps to a healthy lifestyle program

Other steps to a healthy lifestyle program:

Eat breakfast each day

3 Reasons to make Breakfast the most important meal of the day!
1.You need to trick your body into burning more calories. You body has s-l-o-w-e-d
down to starvation mode since your last meal the night before.
You have to jump start your body in the morning!

2.Eventually... you will be sooooo hungry that your self-control will go right out the window. You know what I am talking about. You will have a high fat, sugary candy bar, soda
and chips. Make your own grab and go breakfast items for the morning.
Load up your backpack and save money!

3.Your brain needs food too! Have you ever wondered why you seem to crash and
burn in class around 10:00am? You can barely remember your name!
What time is it? Where am I?

Grab N Go" Items

Plan ahead, prepare items using snack bags or small containers. We often grab sugary and
fatty foods because they are already prepared for us.
Break the cycle, save money and prepare your own.  Add variety and make it a regular
      routine.
If you have a favorite sugary snack, throw that in there too. Once or twice a week in a
small portion won't hurt you. This is about lifestyle changes, not making your life miserable.
Have some fun! Buy colorful or unique baskets or containers to store your "Grab N Go"
      items.
Keep your snack bags of dry items (trail mix, granola bars, whole grain crackers, dried
fruit, low-salt pretzels, dry roasted nuts) in a basket on the counter.
Store your snack bags of refrigerated items (small chunks of low fat cheese, baby carrots,
sliced fruit, small pieces of chicken, turkey bacon or leftovers in front of the refrigerator.

Here's a secret...
when you cut back on sugar, you stop wanting it as much!

Control your portion sizes

What's a normal portion size?

Advertisers spend a lot of money increasing portion sizes each year to make more money.
We have been played! It's all about bling, bling and ching, ching!
No wonder we are Supersized.
We don't like to waste our money, so we eat all the food they give us. We have to get a grip! Cleaning your plate is not always the best thing to do.
If you are eating out - cut your portions in half.
Restaurants make meals to feed a large man.

It's as easy as 1-2-3!
1.Divide your plate before you start to eat.
2.Ask for a container or put it to the side.
3.Eat slowly and enjoy each bite.

Practice Portion Control at Home (practice with measuring cup at first)
1 serving=
1 cup of milk
1/2 of 100% Fruit Juice
3 oz. (palm of your hand) chicken, turkey, fish or beef
1/2 cup of cereal, cooked beans, peas and corn
1/3 cup of cooked pasta or rice
1 slice of bread
1 slice of cheese
1 tbs. of peanut butter
1 egg

Eat as many cooked or raw vegetables as you like

There are approximately 10-15 teaspoons of sugar in one soda. It's like pouring
       sugar out of a can.
Vending machines are everywhere. Advertisers target teens!
